How Will We Use Our Newest Powers
This minicourse has two threads building toward a single goal. This Finale is a quick example of that final goal. The first thread laid the foundation for real understanding of quantum science, artificial intelligence, machine learning and robotics, which together give us our newest powers – intelligent autonomous robots that were previously the province of Science Fiction and writers like Isaac Asimov. The second thread laid the foundation for how we can make high stakes, often controversial, personal and public policy decisions. At the very beginning we foreshadowed this finale with the figure below:
Working in groups consider the following question: To what extent should we replace flesh, blood and furry pets by furry robotic pets? Use the framework above. Articulate a variety of goals and identify stakeholders. Discuss the possible choices and make recommendations in this framework. Groups will report back at the end of this minicourse.
