The left side of this figure represents what we see in the real world. The right side represents a model or work of art (in this case a physical model) that we have built to help us understand the real world. In the center we see a graphic representing the “modeling” cycle. This is an iterative process in which we go back-and-forth between the real world and a model or work of art, building a series of models (works of art) and testing them against the real world.
